ICCR & SRI: Introducing Laura Berry
On February 12, the Unitarian Universalist Association, Walden Asset Management and KLD sponsored a talk by Laura Berry, Executive Director of the Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility (ICCR).
I had the privilege of introducing her. These were my remarks.
In introducing my old friend, Laura Berry, I want to state the glaringly obvious: Without ICCR, SRI as we know it wouldn’t exist. It would not exist.
For 36 years, ICCR has provided SRI with thought and moral leadership.
We like to talk today about ‘environmental, social and governance’ (ESG) issues. ICCR defined those issues in the early 1970s.
In today’s environment, we need ICCR as much as – if not more than – ever.
We need ICCR’s thought leadership as new frameworks – such as ‘sustainabilty’ – reorder our thinking about issues we in SRI have pressed for years.
We need ICCR’s moral leadership to force corporations, institutional investors and, most importantly, us - we in SRI - to confront the ethical dimensions of the ESG issues.
In sponsoring and hosting this event, the Unitarian Universalist Association, Walden Asset Management and KLD are asking for your support - in dollars, resources and votes - of this organization that is so vital to all of us.
